Ours is a corner double story four balconied house in Cantonment civil area.
It is situated on the bustling Hill road on the west side and cross road no 2 on the southern side.
My friends call it an oasis while I feel it divinely ordained aswhile standing on the balconies, I see nearby Sanatan Dharam Mandir, Kali Bari Mandir, Yamuna –Jawahar and Arya Samaj Mandirs.
The day begins with my emerging on the front balcony where I sip my morning tea and read news papers, simultaneously listening to the melodic music of chirping birds hopping on the surrounding trees.
I also see the devout visiting the temples in the midst of playing of hymns , soothing bhajans and ringing of bells emanating from temple speakers’ that truly purges the soul.
In morning and evening, these balconies give me spectacular views of rising sun and its crimson setting while during rains, the gushing water drops thrill me to the core.
As the day progresses, the balconies becomes idyllic point to watch the start of hustle bustle on the roads below with blaring sound of motor vehicles and the customers bee lining for adjoining banks , shops and show rooms.
Viewing excited vegetables vendors start sprinkling water on fruits and veggies to give them a fresh look reminds me of the chores to be done.
The west side balcony gives an entirely different look when scores of parents and students start thronging a very big book shop across the road while hundreds of beaming faces of school and college going students swarm the roads.
Come festival months of August, September and October, our balconies provide vantage point to view thronging multitudes enjoying the ‘Shri Krishna Janamasthami’ mela, Haryali Teej fair.
These are enchanting spectacles where one beholds toy sellers, quaint swings and typical street side delicacies.
Not to be missed is the fanfare of numerous marriage processions (Barats) with ghori riding groom’s relatives’dancing frenziedly on Bollywood tunes.
All through the day one can remain busy waving to the known people and also exchanging pleasantries with the loved ones.
The balconies become mesmerizing in the night again when the commercial actives cease and the roads become empty and street lights illuminating and the glow signs gleaming while the moon light from the sky giving the house a silver coating.
Bemused, I watch hundreds of twinkling stars on unknown sojourn beckoning me and enticing while I get lost in the reverie.
Many a times in the mid of the night, I go to the balcony to watch the full moon and star constellations and get awe struck at the extraterrestrial panorama .
From my lovely balconies, I see the teeming life below and celestial life above.

Dear sir
Your razor-sharp intelligence retelling the vivid recollections of the past grabs the attention of the readers, even to the minutest of the details. As always, I find this piece of writing amazing!
The description of the balconies of your house is so vivid that I feel to have lived it. Wow! You touched almost every season and time of the day, not leaving the times when your balconies witness resting roads.
A marvellous description of a veritable humdrum of the hawkers / shopkeepers, passers-by and vehicles!
